"Looking at Carroll" Part II Page 12

FOLKS WE USED TO KNOW
Did you ever sit in the firelight glow
And think of the folks you used to know
Who have silently, queitly, one by one
Passed to the land of the setting sun?
Boys and girls, women and men,
Jot them down with your pencil or pen;
Dear ones, loved ones, friend and foe,
The kindly folks we used to know.
Names and faces of other days
Meet our questioning, wondering gaze
As memory adds to the mounting toll
Of those who answered the heavenly roll.
Like the falling verdure of leaf and flower
They lived and dreamed their alloted hour;
And we think of them as night climbs slow,
The kindly fols we used to know.
