Here are some search guidelines
Please note:
Much of the material on this site are images of pages and the search engine does not find names appearing in these images. However, key names have been added at the bottom of many pages so that the search can locate these pages.
Specifically, the Cemetery Records are page images and therefore will not be found by the search engine.
The Census Records also are page images and they will not be found as well. However, the Carroll Census are indexed and the index entries will be found by the search engine.
In the text of Jessie Gundy's "Looking at Carroll", Dennis Ridgway's "Passing Papers" and the "Carroll Centennial Souvenir Program" most names will occur in a (Firstname Lastname) format.
Example: Charles Kistler or Charlie Kistler
Whereas the indexes for the Graduation Photos and the Carroll Census are in the form of (Lastname Comma Firstname)
Example: Kistler, Charles or Kistler, Charlie.
The Index for "Passing Papers" is in the form of Lastname, Firstname1, Firstname2, Firstname3.
Example: Kistler, Charles and Grace
Because of these variations in format it is recommended that you use just the last name (ie Kistler) and then check through all of the results.
Some further words of advice -
- The search engine will overcome some minor variations in spelling but not major variations. So it is a good idea to try all of the possibilities you can think of. For example, Nicholas Rowe is spelled Rough in one of the census records.
- Also the search engine will just not find some items so you need to search for them yourself.
